Welcome to the Lynwood Shorei Karate club. We are located at 11409 S. Birch St. in the city of Lynwood. The Lynwood site dates back to 1981 and transverse through several locations. Laboriously spearheaded by John S. Soltis, ninth degree black belt (Ku dan), the conquest to find a permanent home has landed the Lynwood Shorei school at the Lynwood gym since 1999. The Lynwood dojo has several unique characteristics and history as it is the only site where the banner of Sensei John Soltis head instructor for the Los Angeles Shorei Ryu schools is displayed. Lynwood has been the site for the last four Sho dan review boards. The another exciting quality of this school is that it has no enrollment age limit; adults are welcomed. There are currently 25 students enrolled in the program ranging from age 8 to Adults, male and female. The class is taught by Bruce Elder fifth degree black belt (Go dan) and assisted by Carmen Martinez second degree black belt (Ni dan). The curriculum covers 15 traditional Okinawa kata, 4 groups of techniques and weapons such Bo staff and Kama.
The dojo is at the gym of Lynwood Park and is supported by the City of Lynwood with Recreational staff members to assist in registration for the program.
The overall purpose of the program allows the student to gain insight of Shorei-Ryu and an understanding of perseverance, achievement and self confidence through the guiding principles of karate. The dojo has an open door policy and welcomes anyone who would like to join the Shorei-Ryu family.
